Your district is invited to participate in the review or creation of STEM

Curriculum Unit Overviews and Instructional Units. 

Deadline – January 10, 2014

Mini Grants

Available Funding – $2,000-$3,000 will be awarded in the form of mini-grants to support your district team. Perkins funding can also be used to support this work if teams include a minimum of 1 CTE educator (contact for additional CTE information).

Teams – Curriculum writing teams should have 2-4 content area specialists (science, math, social studies, technology, career and technical education (CTE), arts, and/or literacy) and 2-3 support specialists (librarian, gifted and talented, English language acquisition, special education, Title I)

Grade level(s) – Select 1 or 2 grade levels that interest you. If you would like to see the existing sample, send me an email to get a copy ( or you can propose a new unit idea for the grade of interest.

Commitment – 4 days – Two days to write/revise unit overview, performance assessment, and unit description. Two days to write learning experiences in the instructional unit that will build towards the performance assessment.

Timeline – March 2014-May 2014. Your district can decide which two-day combinations will work for them. For example, the first two days can take place in March and the last two days in May.

Please submit a letter of intent to Dr. Violeta Garcia.

This letter must include:

  • Your interest in moving forward with the application process for $2,000-$3,000 in potential funding to develop a STEM sample unit
  • Your commitment to supply the facility where the team will convene
  • An idea of the grade level/ grade level bands your district team will represent. Please indicate if you plan to include a CTE teacher.
  • Permission from superintendent or BOCES president
