Discovery Education and Digital Promise invite you to a national leadership summit on the transition to digital learning environments.

As a follow-up to the Federal Communications Commission and Department of Education’s Digital Textbook Playbook initiative, Future@Now will spotlight real education and community leaders sharing real stories about their work to fuel student achievement.

A few of the featured speakers include:

  • George Miller, U.S. House of Representatives – Congressman George Miller is the Senior Democrat on the House Education and Workforce Committee and a leading advocate in Congress on education, labor, the economy, and the environment. First elected in 1975, he now represents the newly created 11th District of California in the East Bay of San Francisco, including the majority of Contra Costa County. He recently introduced the Transforming Education through Technology Act, which would require states and school districts to develop plans and policies that put the best technology in the hands of students and teachers to support learning and achievement for all students.
  • Alberto M. Carvalho, Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS)– Alberto Carvalho is Superintendent of the nation’s fourth largest school system. He is a nationally recognized expert on school reform, innovation and education finance. M-DCPS is now widely considered one of the nation’s highest performing urban school systems as the 2012 winner of the Broad Prize for Urban Education and has been identified by the AP | College Board as a leader in minority student participation and performance on Advanced Placement Exams. Mr. Carvalho has brought a renewed focus to the classroom resulting in rapidly increasing student achievement and overall school performance improvement. He is the President of ALAS, the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents, and has received numerous honors and awards both for humanitarianism, as well as groundbreaking work in the fields of education and business management.
  • James H. Shelton III, Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement – Jim Shelton is the assistant deputy secretary for innovation and improvement, managing a portfolio that includes most of the Department’s competitive teacher quality, school choice and learning technology programs, housed in the Office of Innovation and Improvement.
